Found Needed Parts
What we do to get good parts. Just got back from the Seattle area for this Gem of a original dashboard. Just need to find out the right way to fix the small cracking in the corner and what to do to protect it. Found some stuff on the interwebs.
More Prep…..
It’s been a wild ride this past few weeks. But after I got most of my vision back we were able to get back to work on our Datsun project. The doors are off to a friend to get the holes welded up from the different mirrors that was installed and the holes cut out for electric windows. All the windows got removed. The seals was so dried out they crumbled and had to be cut out. Time to find new ones. Found a solid glass back window to replace the slider. Just have a few more things to finish before we are ready for paint.
Removing Bolts
Got a little done last night. Don’t understand why people just throw together stuff with out trying to do it the right way. Found sever self taping screws holding on the fenders. Well decided to get the broken bolts out so we can get this thing back together using the factory holes. Cleaned the rust out of the threads and cleaned up some of the surface rust in front.
This Weeks Evening Work
Well Nathaniel and I got some work done in the evenings. We got both fenders removed. It doesn’t look bad at all just surface rust that we can remove and clean up. One fender the previous owner welded up marker light hole and the three holes for the DATSUN badge. The fender was not lining up at all and was bend up a bit. We have a bit of work to do to get it ready for paint. Need to start looking around for someone to paint it.
We cleaned out the interior and pulled the door panels because the door handles was having a hard time unlatching the doors from the inside. It looks like when the previous owner installed the electric windows they had to bend the rods. That made it not want to work like designed. Time to see if we can weld in a replacement piece so we can go back to old school rollup windows.
We still cleanup surface rust and started pulling the dents that we can get out. Still lots to go.
Started Rust Cleanup
Took a little time today from working on client projects to work with Nathaniel on some Datsun tasks. Got the garage warmed up for him. Nathaniel started cleaning up some of the surface rust on the bed side and inside the bed. Started showing him how to take off parts and put the bolts back or out them in a bag and label it.
Parts Trucks Found
I found 2 local parts trucks that was less than a mile away. The trucks have most of the parts that we need. The rest we can sell to get some of the money back. Need to get time to start pulling parts and get stuff ready.
High School Truck Found
So I been looking for a 620 Datsun King Cab like what I had in High School. Well I found one at the beginning October 2020. Same color and setup that I had but just a little lower but that can be fixed. I decided not to purchase it because of certain predicaments that I’m in right now. Well my wife thought differently about my decision. Well she decided to purchase the truck that I have been on a search of for a long wile. Thank you so much Lindsay. It will be a fun long project for Nathaniel and I. Here are some photos of the truck before we start our project. There is a lot of small parts that we need and stuff to be fixed. Time to start searching for parts and stuff to get this going.
